12th District VP Steps Down

January 1, 2007 will be a sad day for the 12th District indeed. Long time 12th District VP Dominick Barbera (22 plus years as our VP) will be leaving us to meet new challenges with the IAFF. He has been a great friend to all of us, we wish him and his family the best. Soon we will be asked to choose and vote for a new 12th District VP and we must choose wisely.

With that being said, the SCPFFA will rally around and give 100 percent support to 12th District Field Service Rep.  Larry Osborne for his bid to be our new 12th District Vice President.

Brother Osborne has some very large shoes to fill as he will be replacing long time 12th Dist. VP and friend Dominick Barbera. We are confident that Brother Osborne will represent our district very well and we look forward to working with him.

Columbia, SC IAFF Local 793 Honored

On December 21st the Columbia, SC Local 793 received the Congressional Fire Service Institute Community Service Award. This honor is given through the U.S. Congress and recognizes and commends their dedication and support to community causes. Specifically, the award recognized the continued efforts of the Columbia Local led by Captain Eddie Baughman (Vice President) for their support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association in South Carolina. The award was presented to Eddie and fellow members by U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson. Columbia Fire Chief Bradley Anderson assisted Congressman Wilson in recognizing the firefighters.

Congressman Wilson pointed out to the media the efforts made by the Local should be an example to all for reaching out to such a noble cause and they should be commended for their efforts in not only raising money through Fill the Boot, but also for their hands on approach in working with MDA year round at Summer Camp, MDA Fundraising events, and support to the office and families served in the local area.

The SCPFFA and all S.C. IAFF Locals are very proud of the members of Local 793. Great job guys.
